The SNES Pixel BookBUY NOW - FREE UK DELIVERY
Bitmap Books is proud to present its latest retrogaming title, The Unofficial SNES Pixel Book. Created in collaboration with German publisher, Elektrospieler, this lavish, 272-page volume celebrates the golden age of 16-bit gaming on Nintendo’s ultra-popular home console.
The book, which has been painstakingly translated from the original German text, features in-depth articles exploring the major genres to be found in the SNES’s huge portfolio of games. This is accompanied by tens of thousands of screenshots, specially taken, composed and selected for this volume, with a combination of single images, cut-outs, sprawling montages and gigantic level maps.
So whether it’s a colossal spaceship, multi-screen boss monster, giant fortress, or a comprehensive level overview, you can admire your favourite games and characters in ways rarely seen before. The book features a huge number of titles, from obscure oddities to the biggest classics, including Street Fighter II, Super Mario World, Super Castlevania IV, Axelay, Chrono Trigger, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Final Fantasy VI – all beautifully presented and preserved for eternity.
The many games have been divided into classifications, with thoughtful and fascinating insights into the evolution of genres and design trends, and their impact on today’s video game landscape. Overall, the project represents the culmination of many years’ work by its authors, Robert Bannert and Christine Bauer, and translator Thomas Nickel.
The book is offered in hardback with a spot-varnished protective slipcase, and is produced to Bitmap Books’ usual superlative standards.
272 page, 250mm x 250mm, Hardback, Spot-varnished cover. Lithographic print, Sewn binding, Spot-varnished 3mm protective board slipcase.
- pixel art
A great collection of pixel art in SNES games, and the commentary is interesting and informative. The images are displayed perfectly, and the binding of the book is really nice too.
I buy just about every book Bitmap publishes because they are all awesome. I was looking forward to this one but assumed it would mainly be a lot of pictures, which I love. Turns out is has a lot more information packed in which I love even more. Video game history and any related subset are extremely interesting to me so it was great that this book contained lots of it. Of course I have not even mentioned the beautiful layouts and photos contained within. I am always stunned by how beautiful these books are. It's hard for other companies to compete honestly and I hope they produce more books for years to come!
Great visuals with only a few articles that go with them. It's all about the Pixel Art! Still it was such a great idea to have translated this book into English (formerly available in German from another publisher). A must have for all 16-bit era lovers!
